Funding the Vision

The principles of stewardship are the foundation of our life together as a church.
Every few years we run a Planned Giving Renewal programme to encourage parishioners to re-consider their committed level of giving, both money and time and talents. In this way the PCC is better able organise our life and direct our mission, knowing what income to expect.
Read about Planned Giving – Funding the Vision.
We are extremely grateful for all contributions, whatever form they take.

The best book to read is the Bible . . .

Bible Sunday
In February 2008, General Synod passed a resolution that there should be “unfettered access to Bibles in all Churches”. When I have preached on Bible Sunday here in past years, I have suggested that, for a number of reasons, it would be good if we had Bibles in both our Churches. This year I invited you to ‘Sponsor a Bible’ in a special collection at the end of all services on Bible Sunday. We will also have collections in both Churches for the next few weeks – or any …

Children matter

Children matter to Jesus
Jesus said: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14, NIV.
He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my …

Holy Week Services 2010

Holy Week gives us an annual opportunity to enter more deeply into the story, the reality and the meaning of the passion, the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus our Lord.
This year we are specially privileged to have Bishop Christopher with us for the Triduum, the days between Maundy Thursday and Easter Day, exercising one of the most important roles entrusted to a bishop – to teach the faithful.
Bishop Christopher will preside and preach at the Maundy Thursday Eucharist of the Last Supper, at which he will wash the feet of …

Journey with Jesus this Lent

This time last year a number of people from the parish were on pilgrimage in the Holy Land. Until one has made such a journey, it is hard to imagine how powerful it is to walk where Jesus walked and to see vistas that Jesus saw. In terms of place and physical geography, it is as close as we come to walking with Christ.
There is, however, another way to walk with Jesus, and that is through our life of prayer, Bible reading and discipleship – in other words, through the …

From the Vicar – October 2009

October in this parish means Harvest Festival – the time when, as we celebrate again the bringing in of the harvest, we thank God for his many gifts and graces. And so we shall be celebrating Harvest once again at St Mary’s on Sunday 4th (not least with the parish Harvest Lunch, hog roast and all), and at St John’s on Sunday 11th (preceded by the Harvest Supper on Friday 9th).
This season of thanksgiving is the perfect time for everyone who worships at St Mary’s and St John’s to be …
