In the Community

Caring & Serving

Patrick & Sheila Samuels, our Church Army officers are involved full-time in serving the local community – through outreach groups on St John’s Estate, Holiday Clubs, Praise Parties, business chaplaincy and evangelism.

Little Stars Toddler Group

Little Stars Toddler Group is run in the Cromwell Centre on St. Johns Estate in response to the needs of the local community. We meet on a Thursday morning from 9.15 to 11.00am. We are always looking for volunteers to help out with playing with children and chatting with parents. Many of our parents would love to make new friends. For more info contact Sheila on 01932 224991 or e-mail sheila@waltonparish.org.uk

Tea for Older People on St. Johns estate

Again this is in response to the needs of the local community. Some of the older people can’t manage to get out to social activities and by hosting it locally on the estate we can meet and chat with residents. We offer refreshments and a listening ear. For more info contact Patrick on 01932 224991 or e-mail patrick@waltonparish.org.uk

Holiday Club

This is currently co-led by Mandy and Sheila.  The Holiday Club has two roles one is to provide a service to the local community and secondly to a chance for the Church to engage with young children in a fun and interactive way.  We are always looking for volunteers with helping plan and attend the week or part of the week and seeing what a difference we can make to our local community.  If you would like to get involved in this valuable service contact Sheila Samuels on 01932 224991or email sheila@waltonparish.org.uk

Social Action Team

The Social Action Team is a group of unskilled, but willing Christian volunteers who get together to carry out simple one-off tasks to make a difference in the local community. For more information on how to join and what’s involved call John Badcock on 01932 888992 or email john.badcock@sky.com

Schools work

Both staff and members of Church help out at different schools, doing different things.  Through outreach we are encouraging church members to give up a little time each week, as little as an hour to listen to children reading.  No teaching skills are required just a listening ear and words of encouragement. For more information contact Rev. Steve Bailey on 01932 227617 or email steve@waltonparish.org.uk

Community Surveys

Last year we carried out a survey on St. Johns estate, to ask what the needs of the community are and to respond where we could as a Church.  On the week commencing 17th May 2010 we will be carrying a similar survey on Vicarage Fields housing area.  We will go out into the community as a team but before that all volunteers will receive training about the purpose of the survey and how to respond to community members questions.

Not just on Sunday

Our churches and halls are not just for worship services on Sundays. During the week they are home to a host of activities ranging from mother and toddler groups and nursery schools to dance classes and birthday parties.
