Review of a Youth Service

Youth Service 24th September 2006

My Background

I have been raised with no strong religious beliefs. I have only attended church through school carol services and christenings. My views were thus only of very formal settings with teachers controlling our every move! I was very impressed by the enthusiasm of all the teenagers involved in the service and the organisation that would have been but into the service. This shows that they are lead by enthusiastic leaders who develop and strengthen their beliefs.

Positives

  • Welcome atmosphere
  • Friendly congregation of mixed ages
  • Enthusiastic leaders, readers and band members
  • Setting was perfect not too big or small
  • Relaxed service that encouraged input from all
  • The band was impressive, musically together and is exactly what the children want, shows that their ideas are listened too
  • Paul's talk was inspiring and very well expressed
  • His audience participation was especially enjoyed by all
  • The use of quotes from both the bible and films meant that even with my non-religious background meant that all could relate to the talk
  • Length was perfect as it meant that nobody got distracted by young children or suchlike
  • Use of PowerPoint throughout was an effective means of allowing the congregation to follow the service and join in with all the hymns

Negatives

  • Maybe more information on how the congregation can get involved in appropriate schemes related to the talk/service
  • Information about the next service and the topic could have been announced as it could attract more children and teenagers to get involved.
